6 Camotes Island Beaches to Visit When in Cebu

Camotes Island remains an underrated tourist destination in Cebu despite its stunning natural landscapes. You have many reasons to include it in your Cebu itinerary, and one of them is its white sand beaches. That’s why I highlighted some of the best beaches in Camotes Island that I’ve been to in this guide.

Camotes Island is known for its caves and natural spring-water cave pools. At least 8 caves are known across the group of islands. Apart from caves and cave pools, Camotes Island is also home to dozens of white-sand beaches, another reason to explore the island.

Speaking of a group of islands, Camotes Island (or Camotes Islands as it should be called) is made up of three bigger islands, Pacijan, Poro, and Ponson, and one islet, Tulang Diot. Most white beaches in Camotes are found in Pacijan Island, particularly in the town of San Francisco.

If you come from Cebu City or Danao, most beaches are accessible as you will be touching down in San Francisco. I highly recommend renting a motorbike or scooter for 300-500 PHP a day to get you around easily.

Without further ado, here are some white sand beaches in Camotes Island that you may visit:

1. Santiago White Beach

Located in Santiago, hence the name, this is the largest and most popular public beach in Camotes Island. Along its shores are food stalls, eateries, cottages, accommodations, and local bars. The wide grassless foreshore makes it enjoyable regardless of the tide.

On weekends, the beach becomes alive at night with local pubs and karaoke bars. You may also camp out here or play volleyball. There are shops and resorts where you can rent a kayak, paddleboard, and jetski.

Santiago White Beach is also a great spot for viewing sunrise and sunset. But the best time to visit is when the tide is up if you want to enjoy water activities.

2. Mangodlong Beach

Although accessible only via private resorts, Mangodlong Beach is also worth visiting. Located in Consuelo, its beach face is smaller than Santiago White Beach. But it does have the same soft white sand and clear water.

The best way to access Mangodlong Beach is through Mangodlong Paradise Beach Resort. If you’re looking for a quieter and more relaxing time in Camotes, you can book your stay here or just get a day pass to access the beach and infinity pool. Day use costs 500 PHP, which includes access to the beach, use of the infinity pool, and a plated lunch with a drink.

3. Bakhaw Beach

Located in Esperanza, in the northern part of Pacijan Island, Bakhaw Beach is a favorite hangout spot among locals. It’s not as developed as the first two beaches, so you won’t see any restaurants and resorts nearby.

But you will see bangka (outrigger boats) docked on the shores. Nothing screams more local than this.

Bakhaw Beach is located right along the road. But before reaching the beach, you need to walk through a dirt trail and coconut trees.

4. Batson Beach

Locals sometimes refer to it as Hidden Beach because it’s not well known to visitors. Batson Beach is accessible a few minutes from Camotes Backpackers Hostel and near Santiago White Beach.

Batson Beach is my favorite beach in Camotes Island for two reasons. It’s swim area is more spacious than other beaches on this list. And not a lot of people go here.

From above, you will see that the beach is like a cove. So it’s much more private than the other beaches.

5. Heminsulan Beach

This beach in Heminsulan is a popular hangout spot among local families since it’s where floating cottages are. If you don’t know, floating cottages or beach huts are common. They are rented for the day, typically by families and circles of friends, for a get-together. Of course, there will be booze and lots of food!

6. Tulang Diot Beach

Tulang Diot Islet is located off the coast north of Pacijan Island. It’s home to a beautiful white sand beach with clear water.

You need to take a boat from Tulang Dako Beach to the islet. The boat fare is 20 PHP per person. If you are solo, it’s best to wait for other tourists so you can share the cost. Otherwise, you need to take the entire boat and pay 200 PHP.

On the eastern part of the beach, you can snorkel and watch giant sea turtles. However, you need to be careful, as there are boats coming.

If you are a group, you can charter the entire boat to bring you to the giant sea turtles and where there are live corals. This would cost 1,500 PHP.
