How to Get to Cebu from Siargao

To get to Cebu from Siargao, you can either take a direct flight from Siargao to Cebu or a ferry from Siargao to Surigao City and then an overnight ferry to Cebu. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get to Cebu from Siargao:

Option #1: Direct Flight from Siargao to Cebu

First, you need to book your Siargao to Cebu flight. Cebu Pacific Air and Philippine Airlines have daily flights from Siargao to Cebu and vice versa. Boutique airline Sunlight Air also has trips in between destinations.

To get to the Siargao Airport, take a van for hire or v-hire. Ask your hotel’s front desk about vans that go to the airport. They can book one for you.

These vans will pick you up from your hotel at your desired time (or two hours before your flight’s departure). The fare from General Luna to Siargao Airport is 300 PHP (~6 USD) per person, and the travel time is about 45 minutes.

Option #2: Ferry From Siargao to Cebu via Surigao City

Alternatively, you can take a ferry to Cebu. Just a heads-up—there’s no ferry company that directly travels from Siargao to Cebu. You need to get to Surigao City to get to Cebu.

Take a DATSCO modern jeepney to Dapa Port. The fare is 30 PHP (~0.5 USD) per person.

Or, you can charter a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) (up to 2 passengers) or tricycle (up to 5 passengers) to take you to Dapa Port. Fare is 300 PHP (~6 USD) for a habal-habal and 300-350 PHP (~6-7 USD) for tricycle. Travel time is 30 minutes.

You need to buy your ticket at Dapa Port, where ticket booths of shipping companies like Montenegro, Evaristo, and JP Shipping are. The fare is 400 PHP (~8 USD) for a fastcraft tourist class. Travel time of fastcraft ferries is 1.5 hours.

You can walk in anytime at the port when buying your ticket if it’s not a long weekend or holidays like Holy Week and Christmas time. Otherwise, book your ticket at least a day before.

For instance, last Holy Week, I had to accompany my friend to get his ticket from Siargao to Surigao a day earlier since ferries were getting fully booked. Weeks after the long holiday weekend, I decided just to walk in and was able to get my ticket pretty smoothly.

If you decide to walk in, be sure to go to the port early morning to ensure there are still ferries in case the early schedule is booked.

At Surigao Port, look for the ticket booths of shipping companies like Starlite Ferries and Cokaliong Shipping. They both have daily trips. Take Starlite Ferries as it’s cleaner and more well-maintained.

I highly recommend booking your ticket in advance to avoid getting booked out. Surigao City is the only port serving Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur going to Cebu, so they get booked fast.

The travel time from Surigao to Cebu is 8.5 to 10 hours, depending on the type of ferry on schedule.

Outside the port in Cebu City, it’s best to book a Grab or take a metered taxi to your hotel or destination. Depending on the surge of passengers from the ferries, it might take some time to get a taxi. Just a friendly reminder—don’t charter the taxi for a fixed price if you don’t need to.
